Begun last summer (2011), I completed a series of (6) new watercolors based on a visit and study of the Neolithic sites of Stonehenge and Avebury in 2010. Located on the Salisbury Plain in England, my cousin Suzanne Hicks and I spent a day traveling the countryside with a guide to see these ruins along with the W. Kennet Long Barrow and Silbury Hill. These ancient and majestic stones captured my imagination. They are realized in brilliant and iridescent colors, combined with loose and tight brush handling. Executed on beautiful, handmade paper from Mexico, these works were so liberating to make. I will always treasure the memory of this day even though I was sick and had a bum knee!
